Japanese
T-shirts – Are They an Example of Excellence?
Japanese t-shirts follow US fashion but in their haste the Japanese sometimes have
difficulty in reading the trends. Just take the emblazoned t-shirt.
Wearing US army gear during the Vietnam War to protest the army and the
war or wearing Coca-Cola t-shirts because you don’t like the stuff went
over their heads.
High
Quality T-shirts
Since not long after WW2 the quality of Japanese goods has been extremely
high and they strive for perfection. So when they import they expect the
same good quality
One US high priced t-shirt manufacturer found out the hard
way. He had an entire ship load of t-shirts rejected because the seams had
little stitching holes when stretched even though they didn’t show when
the t-shirt was worn.
Japanese
T-shirt Designers
Japanese designers Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo exploded
on to the world stage in the early 1980's.
Mostly renowned for gender neutral or unisex, their
t-shirts were shapeless and concealed the female body.
Japanese
T-shirts - They Had Detractors
Detractors labeled it the “Hiroshima bag-lady” look. But detractors
were out numbered. And because of designers like Mikake, Yamamoto and
Kawakubo, Paris and New York had to recognize Tokyo and Asia in general as
creators of fashion.
No longer is Tokyo or Asia considered just a producer of
western designs.
