How To T-shirt

How to Screen Print a T-shirt

You have a computer, add to that a printer, some paint brushes, embroidery hoop, ink, glue, nylons and some tracing ability and you can do your own screen printing. If you only wish to do a couple of t-shirts then you don’t need the computer and printer – just a couple of black and white images.

And one more thing you need to make a screen printed t-shirt are instructions.

How to Tie Dye a T-shirt

If you are an old hippie then you most likely recall how to tie dye your t-shirt, otherwise take a refresher course here.

As mentioned on the home page, this is a great way to keep children occupied. You can make it a party day and invite their friends.

Sew Up Some Old Memories
How to Make a T-shirt Quilt

Don’t throw away your old t-shirts – keep them and when you have enough – make a t-shirt quilt. If you don’t have the time, or your level of sewing experience is wanting, you can always get an experienced quilter to do the job for you or look for “quilting classes for beginners” in your area.

Old family t-shirts with “memories” are best. Thrift shops are another good source for second hand t-shirts, otherwise you’re looking at buying 16 new ones.

The favourable thing about purchasing new t-shirts is that you can set a theme. For example you may like to make a quilt displaying animals or your favourite band.

The Pit-falls of Ironing a T-shirt

Not everyone is aware of the damage you can do to the graphics of your t-shirt if you tumble dry the t-shirt or iron the print or transfer.

Knowing this prompted me to go one step further and do a page on 'how to wash and iron a t-shirt'. If this page saves just one t-shirt from disaster for its owner, then it will have been worth the time and effort.

Don’t Get Stuck With Gum on Your T-shirt

When at the cinema, have you ever had some idiot drop gum down between your back and the seat? By the time you find out about the gum it is usually too late and it is difficult to remove. The good news is, it can be removed with ice. Hold the ice on the gum until it becomes cold and hard. On most occasions the gum will just peal off.

A more dramatic approach is to place your gummy t-shirt in a plastic freezer bag and then into the freezer. Allow about 12 hours before removing the t-shirt and the gum should peal off without any resistance.
