Cotton T-shirts

100% Natural Cotton T-shirts

As we don on our cotton t-shirts most of us know little of the fabric – it’s structure or origins – but if you’re interested we give you some interesting facts about cotton

Image of cotton fieldCotton is the world’s oldest known fibre, those who dedicate their lives to studying the history of our planet tell us that cotton dates back at least 7,000 years.

How long do you want your t-shirt to last? Going by Archaeologists who found cotton fabric 5,000 years old at Mohenjo Daro, an ancient town they were digging over in the Indus River Valley of West Pakistan, it should last a while.

Cotton T-shirts and The Archaeologists

Archaeologists also tell us that the Romans wore a tunic not unlike our modern day t-shirt. They also tell us their discoveries led to the conclusion that the Romans – and the Greeks – used cotton for clothing, awnings and sails. So it appears a reasonable assumption that Roman day t-shirts may have been made from cotton.

And if you lived during the period of the Aztec civilization the dollar was of no use. What you needed was naturally coloured brown cotton which was the principal form of payment. The year, I’m uncertain but cotton fabric was initially produced in Nimes France where denim trousers made their debut.

Naturally Grown Tiger Like Striped Cotton

Yes you did read that headline correctly. In fact, naturally coloured varieties of cotton grown in South America comes in shades of striped like a tiger, spotted like a leopard, green, purple, red, chocolate, beige, pink and yellow.

Some Very Good Reasons to Buy Cotton T-shirts

It’s no wonder why I prefer cotton t-shirts over synthetic. The softness of cotton makes it a great choice for garments to wear next to the skin – like t-shirts – and it doesn’t irritate skin or cause allergies because cotton is hypoallergenic.

Do you know how cotton t-shirts keep you cool in summer and warm in winter? The scientific answer is that cotton is a good conductor of heat. But cotton also has a high absorbency rate which allows the t-shirt to catch and retain perspiration allowing it to evaporate slowly and cool more effectively.

Cotton is more comfortable to wear than artificial fabrics because they are less able to ventilate, unlike cotton which breathes easily because of it’s unique fibre structure.

Forget to bring the washing in? No bother, cotton is not easily damaged by sunlight either.

Fabric Manufacturers Know Best for Cotton T-shirts

Australia and Egypt grow the world’s best cotton. In 2004/05 Australia yielded a world record three times the world average. Australia has a reputation as a reliable supplier of high quality cotton.
